OFFICE OF ANIMAL WELFARE LOCATES DOG ON THE LOOSE SINCE MAY 11, 2018 INCIDENT IN NEWARK

NEWARK, DE (May 18, 2018) - Officers from the Division of Public Health Office of Animal Welfare (OAW) have located a dog believed to be the dog on the loose since a May 11, 2018, incident in Newark. At approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, a Newark family called OAW to report that the female mixed-breed dog had shown up in their driveway the day before.

After a period of time the officer was able to get a leash over the dog's head. The dog did not have any injuries, and was transported to OAW's shelter partner, the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

Out of an abundance of caution, the dog will be quarantined for 10 days to watch for possible indications of rabies. After that, BVSPCA behavior staff will evaluate the dog and determine any needs to help her be a successful candidate for adoption.

The Office of Animal Welfare is searching for the individual they believe abandoned the dog, along with another dog at the same time, in the Newark area.
