DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH PUBLISHES HEALTH EQUITY GUIDE TO IMPROVE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS FOR BETER HEALTH

WHAT: Press conference to launch the Health Equity Guide for Public Health Practitioners and Partners. DPH's Bureau of Health Equity published the guide, which was authored by DPH's Community Health Services, the University of Delaware's School of Public Policy & Administration, and other health partners.
WHY: The Guide is a practical tool for reducing barriers to better health outcomes stemming from unjust and unfair differences in social, economic, environmental, and political conditions. Many social and environmental conditions, including poverty and crime, negatively impact health. The Health Equity Guide is designed to help communities identify the underlying cause of poor health, disease, and premature death and increase everyone's ability to engage in healthy behaviors by sharing evidence-based and promising practices to help address causes that underlie health inequities and disparities.
WHEN: Wednesday, January 27, 2016
10:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with tours of the St. Patrick's Center following. The St. Patrick's Center provides emergency food, meals, a homeless day shelter, clothing, transportation, and recreational activities for people in need on Wilmington's east side.
