CODIS
The CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) Section maintains the CODIS database. CODIS contains DNA profiles obtained from crime scene evidence and convicted felons. Searching the profiles in CODIS on a State and National level allows CODIS to identify and link serial crimes. CODIS is a national network supported by more than 160 laboratories across the nation and is designed to help investigators develop leads and solve crimes that have no known suspects. Established by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), CODIS blends forensic science and computer technology into a very effective tool used for solving violent crimes for law enforcement agencies in Delaware. The FBI is responsible for establishing regulations and procedures. Compliance is mandatory in order to participate in the CODIS program.
