Medical Library prior to renovation

The Medical Library of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) offers an extensive array of mental health and substance abuse information resources in both print and electronic formats to DSAMH staff, its provider system, and the consumers to whom it provides services. The Library is also open to the public, and the staff strives to provide accurate and efficient access to mental health information to anyone who needs it. The research-oriented collection is particularly strong in psychiatry, psychology and psychopharmacology and it includes over 20 current journal subscriptions, as well as an extensive collection of older journal titles, and more than 25,000 bound journal volumes and books. To view the holdings for the collection, visit TDnet.com/dsam. The Library belongs to the Delaware Library Catalog and is able to borrow and lend to libraries throughout the entire State of Delaware. To apply for a Library Card visit the Library to pick up an application, or print the application at the bottom of the page and bring it in.

Resources

New and improved Medical LibraryThe DSAMH Medical Library is a part of the Delaware Medical Information Resource Alliance (DelMiRA) and has many evidence-based medical information databases free of charge to all DSAMH Staff. These databases are available (no login required from the Herman Holloway campus) through the DelMiRA Resources page DelMiRA.

To access the resources from home, or from a site other than the Herman Holloway campus, you must Register to log in by proxy.

Once you have registered, you can log back in to Athens using your created username and password by clicking Logon To Athens. Then click on "MyAthens" in the left hand link bar.

The Library also subscribes to Psychiatry Online, a user-friendly resource with several full text journals, textbooks, and books focused on the topics within the behavioral health field. It also provides patient and family information and self-learning assessments. It is only available within the Herman Holloway campus, but will be available in the near future through Athens.

For a quick introduction to these resources, and a reminder sheet on how to login, please view or print the DelMiRA Resources Cheat Sheet in PDF - [Resources Cheat Sheet - Text Version].

If you have additional questions, feel free to stop by the Library, found in the Springer Building at the Herman Holloway Campus, New Castle.

To borrow books from the DSAMH Medical Library, just fill out and bring in the Library Card Application in PDF - [Application - Text Version].

Services

A professional librarian is on hand during standard business hours to answer reference questions and to assist in research. Computers are available on site for State employee use (users need to have a current username and password within the State system).

Through participation in the DOCLINE interlibrary loan networks, nearly any published document not owned by the Library can quickly be obtained. Articles can be requested through the Librarian.

The DSAMH Medical Library was awarded two grants from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine in the past year: a Small Projects Award to update the display and visual aesthetics of the Library, and a Technology Improvement Award to update existing technology (new printers for library patrons, among other things). These awards are reflected in the look and experience of the Library. Come check it out!

Patrons of the DSAMH Medical Library are able to check out books and other materials with their free library card, as well as to make photocopies of articles.
