IN-STATE STOCKPILE (ISS)

What is the IN-STATE    		The ISS program is a multi-faceted approach to 
STOCKPILE?				provide medicines and supplies to communities facing 
					a public health emergency.  Pre-positioned 		
					pharmaceuticals to treat or provide prophylaxis for a 
					population against a wide range of health threats, 	
					including agents of biological, chemical and 		
					radiological incident (i.e. pandemic influenza, anthrax, 
					plague outbreak, or natural disaster), can be rapidly 
					distributed or administered to an affected community 
					within.

Why was the ISS established?		The ISS is part of Delaware’s proactive preparedness
					initiatives to protect Delaware residents and visitors 
					from a possible public health emergency. The ISS 	
					was established to stockpile and pre-position various 
					medications to expedite distribution and dispensing 	
					essential workers during a public health emergency.  
					The ISS is designed to provide immediate access to 
					medicines prior to receiving the Strategic National 	
					Stockpile (SNS). 

What you should know 			The primary pharmaceuticals in the ISS are the 
about medicines in the ISS		antibiotics Doxycycline and Ciprofloxacin.  The ISS 	
					also contains the antiviral medications, Tamiflu and 	
					Relenza, potassium iodide (KI), nerve agent 	
					antidotes, and other items that would be necessary 	
					during a medical event. 

					*	State and local emergency response planners 
						are working together to ensure that the ISS 
						medicines will be delivered to the affected 
						area to protect you and your family if there is 
						a public health emergency. 

					*	No payment is required for medications received 
						from the ISS.   

How will you get your 			The general public may receive ISS medications 
ISS MEDICINE?				through the Neighborhood Emergency Help Centers
