Delaware Teen Pregnancy Prevention
The goal of Delaware Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) is the reduction of unintended teenage pregnancies and teenage births. Delaware’s teenage pregnancy and teenage birth rates continue to show downward trends of improvement. TPP is supported through a variety of government, school and community-based programs, services, and initiatives. Some of these include:
Alliance for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (AAPP)
Supported with a grant from Delaware Health and Human Services, AAPP is designed to coordinate statewide adolescent pregnancy prevention initiatives, identify needs, target high-risk areas and populations, oversee a TPP media campaign, offer educational workshops and technical support, as well as assist with linking programs and resources. Abstinence Education
Abstinence education is a federally funded (Section 510, Title V) initiative to delay the sexual initiation of 10 to 19 year-olds. Current funding supports several programs throughout Delaware.
School and Community-Based Programs
Several high schools in Delaware have teen pregnancy prevention programming provided through their School Based Health Centers. These programs include Teen Hope and Wise Guys.
Community-Based Programs
Several organizations in Delaware are funded to provide teen pregnancy prevention programming. These include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware and Children and Families First.
