Key 2011 Projects:
- Educate juveniles on burns, smoke alarms, and dangers of fire through the Juvenile Intervention Program
- Increase the public’s awareness in proper use of smoke alarms
Brief Project Description:
The State Fire Marshal’s office will continue to use the Juvenile Intervention Program currently in place to educate juveniles about the dangers of fire. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office will remain focused in efforts to educate, highlighting the increase of early detection and warning of fires through public displays, open houses, presentations on the proper use and maintenance of smoke alarms, and work with the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association on their planned smoke alarm give-away programs that are organized by the local fire departments throughout the state.
Project Outcome:
In collaboration with the team’s partners, the state’s strategic plan will be updated for 2011 –2016, for the prevention of Fires and Burns. The public will be educated on the dangers of fire and the importance of early fire detection through the distribution of fact sheets, smoke alarm give- away programs, and other outreach activities. Monitoring will continue; the anticipated outcome is a decrease in the number of fire related injuries, deaths, and dollar loss in Delaware due to fire related incidents.
