WHO: Delaware Health and Social Services (DHSS) Secretary Rita Landgraf, Delaware Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay, and House Speaker Peter Schwarzkopf, among other guests
WHAT: DHSS "Fight the burn" skin cancer awareness press conference to remind people of the dangers of sun exposure now that warmer weather is here. Very special guest: a young anti-skin cancer crusader who lost a parent to melanoma. According to the latest Delaware cancer statistics, Delaware's malignant melanoma has sharply increased compared to the U.S. rate (64.3 percent for Delaware vs. 20 percent for the U.S.) from 1995-1999 through 2005-2009.
