DRINKING WATER NOTICE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Walt’s Auto Body Has Levels of
Trichloroethylene and Tetrachloroethylene
Above Drinking Water Standards

Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

The Division of Public Health collected a water sample as part of a ground water investigation. Test results we received on June 8, 2007 show that our system exceeds the State of Delaware standard, or maximum contaminant level (MCL), for trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene.

The standard for trichloroethylene is 5.0 parts per billion. Trichloroethylene was found at 8.82 parts per billion.

The standard for tetrachlorethylene is 5.0 parts per billion. Tetrachloroethylene was found at 78.0 parts per billion.

What should I do?

  • You need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. If you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.

What does this mean?

This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. However, some people who drink water containing trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene in excess of the MCL over many years could have problems with their liver, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.

What happened? What is being done?

The Office of Drinking water is working in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to locate the source of the contaminants. We anticipate resolving the problem within the coming weeks.

For more information, please contact Office of Drinking Water at (302) 741-8630 or by mail: Blue Hen Corporate Center, 655 Bay Road, Suite 203, Dover, DE 19901.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly. You can do this by posting this page wherever water is available.

This notice is being sent to you by Walt’s Auto Body, in accordance with Delaware’s Office of Drinking Water.
