DRINKING WATER NOTICE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Alisson Auto Body Has Levels of MTBE
Above Drinking Water Standards
Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.
The Division of Public Health recently collected water samples from business. Testing results were received on June 8, 2007 showed that our system exceeded the standard or maximum contaminant level (MCL) for MTBE. The standard for MTBE is 10 parts per billion (ppb). The level of MTBE was 27.3 ppb.
What should I do?
- You do need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
What does this mean?
This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. However, some people who drink water containing MTBE in excess of the MCL over many years may experience problems of the central nervous system, including loss of muscle coordination, tremors, difficulty breathing and drowsiness.
The Office of Drinking Water is working in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to locate the source of the contaminants. We anticipate resolving the problem within the coming week.
