WALGREENS WILL CONTINUE SERVING AS A MEDICAID PRESCRIPTION PROVIDER IN DELAWARE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 30 DAYS AS THE COMPANY AND STATE WORK TO MEET SAVINGS TARGET
PHARMACY WAS SET TO END PARTICIPATION ON JULY 6TH
Wilmington, DE - Delaware's Medicaid participants who get their prescriptions filled at Walgreens now have an additional 30 days to do so, if they choose. The state announced today that the chain has agreed to remain a Medicaid provider for that period of time so they can continue to work with Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services over the state's decision to reduce its Medicaid reimbursement rates to pharmacies.
Walgreens had previously announced it would end participation in the state's Medicaid program on July 6th. The company now will continue to remain a participant until at least August 5th.
"I am pleased that both sides are at the table to look for a permanent solution that benefits everyone, including Delaware's taxpayers and Medicaid enrollees," said DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf.
Walgreens senior vice president of pharmacy Kermit Crawford said, "This extension gives both of us needed time to work out an agreement without impacting pharmacy care to Medicaid recipients. We're hopeful a compromise will be reached."
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
