LT. GOV. MATT DENN RECEIVES SEASONAL FLU SHOT AT FIRST DPH CLINIC


Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn received his annual flu shot today at the Division of Public Health's (DPH) seasonal flu vaccination clinic at the Fraim Senior Center in Wilmington.

With flu season officially underway this week, the Lieutenant Governor said he wanted to remind all Delawareans of the importance of vaccination in preventing seasonal influenza. DPH nurse Shelly Gunzenhauser, RN, BSN, administered the vaccination.

Today's clinic was the first in a series of seasonal flu vaccination events offered by DPH statewide. For a complete clinic schedule, go to www.dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/fluclinics.html

People who should get the seasonal vaccine each year are:

  • Children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday
  • Pregnant women
  • People 50 years of age and older
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including,
  • Health care workers
  • Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
  • Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
.

Some individuals may also be included in priority groups for novel H1N1 vaccination. Vaccine for novel H1N1 flu is expected in Delaware later this week.
