RADIATION PROTECTION PROFESSIONALS RECOGNIZED FOR PROTECTING THE PUBLIC
Governor Jack Markell has issued a proclamation declaring Nov. 8-14, 2009 Radiation Protection Professionals Week in Delaware, and encourages all Delawareans to join in supporting the observance of this proclamation. The proclamation was presented to the Authority on Radiation Protection, an appointed public board that provides oversight and general direction on radiation matters to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH).
"Radiation protection professionals ensure that the beneficial uses of radiation are safe and available throughout the health system, industry, education, research and government, which contributes to protecting and enhancing the health of Delawareans," said Dr. Karyl Rattay, DPH Director.
Radiation protection professionals work in government, industry, medical, dental, educational, research & development, law enforcement, and emergency management communities, bringing the benefits of radiation to the public while minimizing the hazards of radiation exposure.
Over 900 state-permitted radiation facilities and 30 FDA-certified mammography facilities are located in Delaware.
