DIABETES WELLNESS EXPO HELD NOV. 13

Delawareans effected by diabetes will have the opportunity to learn cutting edge information on diabetes care, management and preventative health at the Diabetes Wellness Expo on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Dover Hotel. Screenings for blood sugars and blood pressure; foot care, eye exams and other diabetes-related tests will be provided. The event is organized by the Delaware Diabetes Coalition, Delaware's Division of Public Health and other partners.

More than 50,000 Delawareans have diabetes - the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, lower-limb amputations, heart disease and stroke. The disease requires extensive medical monitoring and costly, lifelong treatment. The Diabetes Expo will also bring together more than 50 vendors to showcase health services, supplies and programs for the management and care of diabetes. Educational presentations on diabetes management, services, resources and tips on controlling the disease will also be offered. The public is therefore urged to participate and learn more about the disease for themselves or loved ones.

The event is free. Participants may pay $7.50 to receive a boxed lunch which includes a sandwich, fruit and beverage. For more information, please call the Delaware Diabetes Coalition at 302-424-3007 or 866-737-1011 or DPH's Diabetes Prevention and Control Program at 302-744-1020
