FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KIDS JUST WANT MORE TIME WITH THEIR DADS-AND HAVING FUN!
CHILD SUPPORT's FREE DADDY AND ME ACTIVITY PROVIDES THE TIME!
Saturday, September 29, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 PM at the Walnut Street YMCA, 1000 N. Walnut St., Wilmington, DE 19801
Wilmington - "A lot of us worry that being a good dad means paying for the latest new computer game or toy," said Charles Hayward, Director, Division of Child Support Enforcement. "It puts pressure on us to work harder when in fact our children most want us involved in activities that cost nothing more than time. And with that we present Daddy and Me Activity Day."
Daddy and Me Day Activities Day is not just about fathers-- it is a FREE family event designed to provide an opportunity for family members to play and share together, as well as, learn about resources and tools available from business, government, community and faith-based organizations state wide that support building strong families. This all day event is jam-packed with fun filled activities for the whole family. There's Karate, Basketball, Aerobics, Hip Hop and Jazz Dancing. There's also our exciting NBA Style Slam Dunk Contest and the fast paced Fatherhood basketball tournament.
The event is co-sponsored by Delaware's Children Department and the Head Start Program on Saturday, September 29th from 9 AM to 5 PM at the YMCA, 1000 North Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. This event and others like it emphasize the movement towards making child support integral to self sufficiency, and a more global process and not just about collections.
"Our goal is to provide fathers and families with information and services to help remove the barriers they face beginning and/or maintaining healthy family relationships," Charles Hayward, Director, Division of Child Support Enforcement. "This is one of the Division's initiatives that include forging partnerships in the community and with other state agencies including the Department of Services for Children, Youth, And Their Families, Office of Prevention and Intervention to bring services and information to families. We realize that, in addition to spending quality time together, dads and families need access to products and services to become emotionally and financially stronger."
