FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DELAWARE'S CANCER TREATMENT PROGRAM CONSIDERS 24-MONTH COVERAGE
The Delaware Cancer Consortium recommended the Delaware Cancer Treatment Program expand coverage eligibility from 12 months to 24 months. A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. to discuss proposed revisions to the state's regulations that govern the program, in order to expand coverage. The hearing will be held at the Thomas Collins Building at 540 S. DuPont Highway in Dover on the second floor. Time is available for the public to comment.
To be eligible for the Delaware Cancer Treatment program, an individual must:
- Require treatment for cancer in the opinion of the applicant's licensed physician of record. Cancer treatment will not include routine monitoring for pre-cancerous conditions, or monitoring for recurrence during or after remission.
- Be a Delaware resident.
- Have been a Delaware resident at the time cancer was diagnosed.
- Have no health insurance.
- Have a gross household income less than 650 percent poverty. For example, a family of four could gross $134,225 annually and be eligible for the program.
Since its inception in July 2004, the Delaware Cancer Treatment Program has served 348 Delawareans with cancer for an average cost of $33,525 per case. A program expansion from 12 to 24 months of eligibility would apply to clients actively enrolled as of July 1, 2007.
