FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATE DENTAL RADIATION TECHNICIAN EXAM PROVIDER TO CHANGE
Effective September 1, 2006, the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) transitions to a computerized Delaware Dental Radiological Technology Exam, which is offered multiple days a week and at multiple testing sites. This new exam replaces the current, written radiological exam which was offered four times a year.
Current testing provider Thomson Prometric, previously known as Experior Assessments, will be replaced by the new provider of its state dental radiation technician certification exam, the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
Individuals will have increased flexibility in scheduling their exam, and will be provided preliminary test results prior to leaving the testing facility.
The cost of the exam will increase from the current amount of $ 58.00 to $ 70.00. Otherwise, the application process remains unchanged from past procedure. Individuals wishing to become certified as Dental Radiation Technicians must submit their application form and application fee of $10.00 to the Division of Public Health (DPH) Office of Radiation Control, and will be sent a packet of information with instructions to register with DANB to schedule their exam. Upon passing the exam, individuals will be mailed a four-year state certificate from the DPH Office of Radiation Control.
A limited number of study materials donated by DANB, entitled “The DANB Review”, and “Glossary of Dental Assisting Terms” will be placed in public libraries located throughout Delaware. A list is provided in the state “Radiological Technologist/Technician Manual”, available through the DPH Office of Radiation Control, and at the website below.
Health care providers depend on radiation for a variety of uses, to diagnose or treat disease. Nearly 700 state-registered dental facilities are located in Delaware. Health-care professionals who are not state-licensed practitioners such as dentists or certified dental assistants must meet certification requirements to administer radiation to patients, to assure safety for the patient, dental facility staff, and the public.
For more information about this program, or for blank application forms, contact the DPH Office of Radiation Control at 302-744-4546 or www.deph.org (click on “Regulations” on the Navigation Bar and scroll to “R” for Radiation).
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
