REP. PETE SCHWARTZKOPF TO RECEIVE ROBERT J. BERNDT HUMANITARIAN AWARD AT 34TH SUMMER INSTITUTE ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH
NEWARK - Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf (D- Rehoboth Beach) will receive the Robert J. Berndt Humanitarian Award on Monday, July 25, for his outstanding commitment to the fields of mental health and substance abuse.
"Over the past several years, Rep. Schwartzkopf has been instrumental in supporting legislation that has helped to enhance the lives of Delawareans facing mental health and substance abuse concerns," said Renata J. Henry, director of Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. "It's important to have a strong advocate in the Legislature, and we have that in Rep. Schwartzkopz.
Rep. Schwartzkopf will receive his award at the 34th Summer Institute on Substance Abuse and Mental Health. The Institute, which began July 25 and will end July 29th at the University of Delaware's Clayton Hall, is a weeklong series of workshops focused on mental health and substance abuse issues. The Institute is open to mental health and substance abuse professionals, consumers, family members, students, volunteers and others interested in mental health and substance abuse issues. Limited space is still available for walk-ins.
This year's event, hosted by the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, features workshops that are taught by nationally recognized faculty and focus on treatment approaches, relapse prevention, anxiety, trauma, documentation, psychopharmacology, cultural competence, application of research to practice, schizophrenia and depression, and other subjects.
The event annually attracts more than 700 participants from around the state and region. The theme of this year's Institute is "Networking and Collaboration: The Strength of Systems."
