Delaware's Division of Public Health learned today that a 10-month old girl is Delaware's first case of influenza for the 2005-2006 season. The girl was not hospitalized and continues to recover at home.
As a welcomed holiday gift, DPH received 11,000 doses of free flu vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Nov. 28, 2005. This vaccine supply has allowed DPH to add an additional flu clinic Monday, Dec. 12, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Fraimes Senior Center, located at 669 S. Union St, Wilmington.
This flu clinic is for adults over age 18 in one of the following groups:
- Adults 50 years and older;
- Have a chronic medical conditions;
- Women who will be pregnant during flu season;
- Residents of long-term care facilities;
- Healthcare workers involved in direct patient care; and
- Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of people in the other high-risk categories.
Residents in these risk groups, and children, can also receive flu shots by appointment at the following locations:
Hudson State Service Center, Newark 302-283-7587
Northeast State Service Center, Wilmington 302-552-3609

DPH has also distributed a portion of the free doses to 32 medical practices and 8 health care facilities statewide, whose orders were cancelled by manufacturers. Physicians must use these doses for high risk patients and can not charge for the dose itself. Residents are encouraged to contact their family health providers to receive this vaccine.
