FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOURTH ANNUAL DIABETES WELLNESS EXPO HELD NOV. 16
More than 50 exhibitors will showcase health services, supplies and programs to residents with diabetes at the Delaware Diabetes Expo, held Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Dover Hotel. The event, organized by the Delaware Diabetes Coalition and Delaware's Division of Public Health will bring together healthcare facilities, diabetes-related organizations and businesses to promote self-management and healthier lifestyles for people with diabetes.
Nearly 50,000 Delawareans have diabetes, the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, lower-limb amputations, heart disease and stroke. The disease requires extensive medical monitoring and costly, lifelong treatment.
The Diabetes Wellness Expo 2005 will host a variety of vendors related to the care and management of diabetes and preventative health. The event includes educational presentations on diabetes management and on Medicare Part D, the new prescription Medicare Drug Program. Several screenings, including blood sugars, blood pressure, and foot care will also be offered. The public is urged to participate and learn more about diabetes self-management for themselves or loved ones with diabetes. A brown bag lunch including a sandwich, fruit and beverage will be available for purchase for $5 the day of the event.
For more information, please call the Delaware Diabetes Coalition at 302-424-3007 or Delaware's Division of Public Health's Diabetes Prevention and Control Program at 302-741-2900.
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
