DELAWAREANS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN RESIDENTS' RIGHTS WEEK EVENTS


Delawareans concerned about individuals in long-term care facilities are invited to participate in a series of events during Residents' Rights Week, Oct. 3-9.

The week highlights fundamental human rights, which should not diminish with age or disability.

Designated by the National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, with theme "Spotlight on Quality: Focus on Resident Rights," the week highlights the dignity and individuality of the 2.8 million residents who live in over 60,000 nursing homes, assisted living, and board and care facilities The week creates an opportunity to celebrate and educate the staff of long-term care facilities, as well as the residents and residents' family members.

Events recognizing Residents' Rights Week are planned at almost every long-term care facility in the state. One special activity is:

Third Annual Residents' Rights Rally

  • What: An afternoon of food, entertainment, skits and presentations.
  • When: Oct. 5, 1-3 p.m.
  • Where: Delaware State University, Dover
  • Who: Open to general public, particularly residents and staff of long-term care facilities.
    Reservations are required, and seating is limited.
  • Cost: Free.
