FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR GOVERNOR'S OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AWARDS
February 28, 2003 New Date for Nominations
Nominations for the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Awards will be accepted through Friday, February 28, 2003, at the State Office of Volunteerism in Delaware Health and Social Services' Division of State Service Centers (DSSC).
These prestigious awards recognize the efforts of Delawareans that best exemplify the spirit of volunteerism throughout our state. Any Delaware individual, group, agency, corporation, small business, school, non profit, for profit or faith-based organization actively engaged in volunteer activities in the State of Delaware is eligible to be nominated.
"We want to provide as much opportunity as possible for businesses, organizations, agencies and individuals to nominate an outstanding volunteer who is really making a difference through community service," said Jane Rattenni, DSSC special events coordinator. "We want to highlight the accomplishments of individuals and groups who are improving the lives of Delawareans."
Award recipients will be honored at a special dinner ceremony during National Volunteer Week in April. To nominate an individual, business, group, faith-based or community organization, contact the State Office of Volunteerism at 1-800-815-5465 or nominate a volunteer on line at www.delaware.gov.
The Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Governor and coordinated by the State Office of Volunteerism and the Governor's Council on Volunteer Services.
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
