FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR GOVERNOR'S YOUTH VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS

March 14, 2003 New Date for Youth Volunteer Nominations

Nominations for the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards will be accepted through Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Office of Volunteerism in Delaware Health and Social Services' Division of State Service Centers (DSSC). These prestigious awards recognize the efforts of young people that best exemplify the spirit of volunteerism throughout Delaware. Categories include individual youth and youth groups working in the areas of environment, public safety, education, community, arts and culture, social justice and health.

"We want to provide as much opportunity as possible for schools, organizations, agencies and individuals to nominate an outstanding youth who is really making a difference through volunteerism and community service," said Jane Rattenni, DSSC community relations and special events coordinator. "We want to highlight the accomplishments of young people who are improving the lives of Delawareans."

Governor Ruth Ann Minner will honor award recipients at a special dinner ceremony on May 29, 2003, at the Modern Maturity Center, Dover. To nominate an individual youth or youth group, contact the State Office of Volunteerism at 1-800-815-5465 or nominate a youth volunteer on line at www.delaware.gov.

The Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Governor, State Office of Volunteerism, Governor's Council on Volunteer Services and the Department of Education.

Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
