SEN. PATRICIA M. BLEVINS RECEIVES ROBERT J. BERNDT HUMANITARIAN AWARD AT 32ND SUMMER INSTITUTE ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH
NEWARK - Sen. Patricia M. Blevins (D-Elsmere) received the Robert J. Berndt Humanitarian Award on Monday, July 28, for her great commitment to the fields of mental health and substance abuse.
"Over the past several years, Sen. Blevins has been instrumental in supporting legislation that has helped to enhance the lives of Delawareans facing mental health and substance abuse concerns," said Renata J. Henry, director of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH). "It's important to have a strong advocate in the Legislature, and we have that in Sen. Blevins."
Sen. Blevins, who is chair of the Senate Committee on Health & Social Services and a member of the Senate Committee to Combat Drug Abuse, was honored at the 32nd Summer Institute on Substance Abuse and Mental Health, sponsored by DSAMH.
The Institute, which began July 28 and will end Aug. 1 at the University of Delaware's Clayton Hall, is a weeklong series of workshops focused on mental health and substance abuse issues. The Institute is open to mental health and substance abuse professionals, consumers, family members, students, volunteers and others interested in mental health and substance abuse issues. Limited space is still available for walk-ins.
This year's event, hosted by the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), features workshops that are taught by nationally recognized faculty and focus on treatment approaches, relapse prevention, anxiety, trauma, documentation, psychopharmacology, cultural competence, application of research to practice, schizophrenia and depression, and other subjects.
The event annually attracts more than 700 participants from around the state and region. The theme of this year's Institute is "Toward Integrated Treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders." Tuition for the Institute is $320 for a five-day workshop or sequence of workshops; $260 for a three-day workshop; or $190 for a two-day workshop. Evening events are free and open to the public. Continuing education credits are available.
