FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PENNSYLVANIA MAN CARED FOR IN DELAWARE HOSPITAL IS NOT A SARS CASE
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced April 10 that a Pennsylvania man who received hospital care in Delaware did not meet the case definition for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). No cases of SARS have been identified in Delaware since the CDC's first announcement about the disease in March.
The individual, whose identity remains confidential, was not hospitalized and was instructed to return home and avoid interacting with the public until 10 days after symptoms have resolved. Pennsylvania's Department of Health monitored the individual's treatment and recovery.
Delaware's Division of Public Health (DPH) is working with Delaware hospitals and physicians to monitor the occurrence of illness consistent with SARS. DPH will continue to investigate suspected cases.
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
