FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ART SHOW WILL HIGHLIGHT WORKS BY MENTAL HEALTH CONSUMERS

Public invited to free event showcasing creativity

NEW CASTLE - Delaware Health and Social Services' Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), in conjunction with various artists, will hold the Second Annual Consumer Art Exhibit this week in the Main Building Rotunda of the Herman Holloway Health and Social Services Campus, 1901 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle.

The show, which is free and open to the public, will run Thurs., May 22, 12-4:30 p.m.; Fri., May 23, 10 a.m.-3 p.m; Tues., May 27, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Wed., May 28, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. These dates were chosen because May is National Mental Health Month.

The theme of the exhibit is "A Celebration of Creativity." The pictures were painted and sketched by some of Delaware's talented mental health consumers from Delaware Psychiatric Center and Fellowship Health resources.

"It is an honor to be part of the Second Annual Consumer Art Exhibit. The exhibit provides a wonderful opportunity for mental health consumers in the arts to receive much-deserved recognition for their contributions," DSAMH Director Renata J. Henry said. "The joy of creativity is evident in each and every work."

A small reception will take place on Thursday, May 22, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Local poet Nancy Wilson, who is also a mental health consumer, will open the show with a poetry reading.

Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
