FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REGISTER NOW FOR DIABETES WELLNESS EXPO

The public is invited to attend the second annual Delaware Diabetes Wellness Expo, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Dover Downs Conference Center. The free event brings together healthcare facilities, businesses and diabetes-related organizations to promote self-management and a healthier lifestyle for people with diabetes. The event is organized by Delaware's Division of Public Health's (DPH) Diabetes Prevention and Control Program and the Delaware Diabetes Coalition.

Over fifty exhibitors will showcase their health services, supplies and programs for Delawareans with diabetes. Workshops will include topics on eye and foot care, self-management tips, physical activity, heart disease, Medicare coverage, financial resources, insulin, carbohydrate counting and more. Dara Murphy, MPH, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will speak about a national perspective on diabetes interventions at 11 a.m.

It is estimated that more than 30,000 Delawareans are diagnosed with diabetes and another 15,000 have the disease but are unaware.

The Delaware Diabetes Wellness Expo is free. Lunch is $5 at the door. To register or become a vendor, contact the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program at (302) 744-4544 or call the Helpline at 1-800-464-4357. The registration deadline is Nov. 9.
