FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EXPERT PUTS TOGETHER PIECES OF DECOMPOSITION AT LECTURE OCT. 31
Media Representatives Welcome at Forensic Event
Describing the details of death isn't a Halloween prank for Bill Bass, PhD. An internationally known forensic anthropologist, Dr. Bass studies corpses to learn their haunting stories of homicide and when they happen. Forensic scientists and law enforcement professionals will hear Dr. Bass speak about his research on decomposition Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at a lecture sponsored by Delaware's Medical Examiner's Office and the Vidocq Society, a Philadelphia volunteer group of forensic scientists. The lecture will be held at the Medical Examiner's Office located at 200 S. Adams St. in Wilmington.
Dr. Bass studies bodies exposed to a variety of environmental conditions at "the Body Farm" at the University of Tennessee Anthropology Research Facility to determine when changes like protein degradation, amino-acid breakdown and insect infestation occur. Dr. Bass's research has been an asset to forensic and law enforcement professionals in developing methods of identification and establishing time of death in murder investigations.
While this lecture is not open to the public, media representatives are invited.
