MEDIA ADVISORY: GOVERNOR CARPER TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING YOUNG PEOPLE WITH 5TH ANNUAL GOVERNOR'S YOUTH VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS
DOVER - Governor Carper will present the 1999 Governor's Youth Volunteer Service celebrating youth volunteerism on Thursday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. Commenting on the upcoming awards, Governor Carper said," This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the many valuable contributions that young people make to our state."
The March 18 dinner ceremony at the Modern Maturity Center will recognize 20 individuals and 7 groups of young people, age 18 or younger, for their outstanding volunteer service. Collectively, these young people have volunteered thousands of hours of community service mentoring children, working with the elderly, and helping the disabled, among other activities. Through their actions, these young volunteer leaders have demonstrated the true spirit of volunteerism in Delaware.
Established 5 years ago, the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service awards are co-sponsored by The Office of the Governor, Governor's Council on Volunteer Services, State Office of Volunteerism and Delaware Community Services Commission, Division of State Service Centers, Delaware Health and Social Services.
