DOVER - Grandparents and other relatives who care for young children now have a resource book to assist them, Delaware Health and Social Services' Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities announced today.
Grandparents Raising and Nurturing Dependent Children, or GRAND, was made available today during the Strengthening Family Circles grandparenting conference in Dover. The manual contains sections on child care, counseling, education, financial assistance, health and legal issues. It is intended as a starting point in assisting caregivers and is the state's first resource book for relative caregivers.
Public libraries and senior centers throughout the state have copies of GRAND for review. Individuals also may pick up a copy at no charge at one of the Division's offices: the Milford State Service Center, 18 N. Walnut Street in Milford; University Plaza, 256 Chapman Road in Newark; or the DHSS Herman M. Holloway Sr. Campus, 1901 N. DuPont Highway in New Castle.
The Division will mail a copy to anyone requesting one. To receive a copy by mail, send a self-addressed 8½" by 11" manila envelope with $2 postage affixed to: Joining Generations, Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, 1901 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
