DNA Unit
The DNA Unit is comprised of two sections: Casework and CODIS. The Casework Section performs scientific analysis of biological samples recovered from crime scenes. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) typing technology offers the forensic scientist the potential to individualize various body fluids and tissue.
DNA is a chemical substance found in all living things, from bacterial and plants to animals and man. With the exception of identical twins, each person's DNA is unique; half is inherited from the mother and half from the father. Nearly every cell in the body contains a complete copy of an individual's DNA.
The DNA Unit has been assessed by the Forensic Quality Services - International Division of the National Forensic Sciences Technology Center and found to comply with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and Forensic Requirements for Accreditation (FRA 1 and FRA 2).
