Delaware Psychiatry Residency Program


Meet the Residency Program Faculty

  • Wolfgang Berten, M.D. is the Director of Consultation & Liaison Services, Department of Psychiatry at Wilmington Hospital. Dr. Berten graduated from the University of Cologne in Germany, completed his adult psychiatry residency at the State University of New York, and completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship and consultation and liaison fellowship at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Berten provides supervision to residents rotating with him on the consultation and liaison rotation.
  • Mark S. Borer, M.D. is a psychiatric consultant based mainly at Silver Lake Treatment Consortium in Dover, Delaware. In addition, he also provides on-site consultations for Brenford Treatment Consortium, Middletown Treatment Consortium, Catholic Charities, and Child and Families First. Dr. Borer completed medical school at the State University of New York, and completed both an adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent fellowship at W.V.U. Medical Center. Dr. Borer provides supervision during the child and adolescent psychiatry rotation.
  • Joseph B. Bryer, M.D. completed his medical studies at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. His postgraduate training included a residency in psychiatry and a research fellowship in neuropsychiatry at The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. He has a private practice of psychiatry and is the Medical Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy Services for the Christiana Care Health System. Dr. Bryer teaches the residents lectures on ECT, as well as provides supervision during the PGY-IV residents' ECT rotation.
  • Sheila Chellappa, M.D. has been the Chief Internist of Primary Care & Diagnostic at the Coatesville VA Medical Center since 2001. She has worked as a physician consultant for managed care, as a primary care physician in Kentucky and Maryland, and had a private practice in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Chellappa provides supervision to residents on the internal medicine rotation.
  • Richard Cruz, M.D. is the Chief of Child Psychiatry and Training at the Terry Children's Psychiatric Center, New Castle, Delaware. He also serves as an attending psychiatrist at the crisis intervention, inpatient/residential and day hospital. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and did his psychiatry residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a fellowship in child psychiatry at Jefferson. His areas of interest include child psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and teaching. Dr. Cruz teaches child and adolescent psychiatry lectures to the residents, as well as supervises them on the required rotation.
  • Andrew Donohue, D.O. is a psychiatrist at the Wilmington Community Mental Health Clinic. He graduated from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center, completed an adult psychiatry residency at Brown University School of Medicine, and completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of Maryland. Dr. Donohue is an active member of the GMEC and has provided leadership in providing remedial supervision and support to residents identified as needing it. He also teaches several didactic courses to the residents.
  • Gerard Gallucci, M.D., M.H.S. is the current DSAMH Medical Director for the State of Delaware. He graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., completed an internal medicine internship at the Francis Scott Key Medical Center (Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center), and then completed an adult psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then continued his post-doctoral education with an NIMH-sponsored fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene & Public Health and a Master's degree in Health Science. Dr. Gallucci completed the Hopkins Business of Medicine Graduate Certificate Program at the Johns Hopkins School of Professional Studies in Business and Education and the certificate program in the Science of Clinical Investigation at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Gallucci has also published numerous publications, presentations, and abstracts, and participated in several research activities. His research and clinical interests have focused on the mental health issues of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He provides psychopharmacology/psychotherapy supervision to senior residents, as well as teaches didactics to all residents. Dr. Gallucci is also an active member of the IGMEC.
  • Sandeep K. Gupta, M.D. is Director of Crisis and Psychiatric Emergency Services and Director of Intensive Outpatient Services at Wilmington Hospital. He completed his psychiatry residency at University of Maryland and has worked as a staff psychiatrist on inpatient units and outpatient clinics throughout Maryland. Dr. Gupta supervises residents on both of the emergency psychiatry rotations, as well as provides lectures on suicide prevention.
  • Navjot Hanspal, M.D. is a Neurologist at the Elsmere VA Medical Center. He graduated from Medical College, Amritsar, India; completed graduate studies in internal medicine at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. He did his neurology training at New York Medical College, NY. His areas of interest are dementia, pain management and epilepsy. Dr. Hanspal supervises residents on the neurology rotation, as well as provides neuropsychiatry lectures to all residents.
  • Kevin Huckshorn, RN, MSN, CADC, ICRC, is the Division Director of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, which supports the entire residency program. Ms. Huckshorn is a licensed and certified mental health nurse and substance abuse clinician with practical knowledge from 28 years of professional frontline experience. In addition, Ms. Huckshorn has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient program development, including peer-run projects, psychiatric rehabilitation treatment programs for persons with serious mental illness and recovery-based mental health and substance abuse services. She served as the recent past Director of the Office of Technical Assistance for the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors and the National Coordinating Center for Seclusion and Restraint Reduction, where she led the development of an evidence-based model to prevent violence and the use of seclusion and restraint.
  • Maryann Hooker, M.D. is the Chief of Neurology at the Elsmere VA Medical Center. She graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and completed her internship and residency in neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. Dr. Hooker supervises residents on the neurology rotation, as well as provides neuropsychiatry lectures to all residents.
  • Dennis Iaccarino, D.O. is with the Coatesville VA Medical Center. He has worked as an internist within a private practice, in a State Correctional Institution, and at a general hospital. He received his medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at Suburban General Hospital. Dr. Iaccarino supervises residents on the internal medicine rotation.
  • Anthony Iaccarino, D.O. is an internist at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. In addition to being Board-certified in internal medicine and emergency medicine, he has added a certificate of qualification in Geriatrics and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Carol Kuprevich, Ed.D. is the Director of Education, Evaluation, Planning and Research in the residency program. In addition to education, her interests include research, disaster response, clinical supervision, and community and emergency behavioral health. Dr. Kuprevich is also an active member of the GMEC and IGMEC, and has co-authored research efforts with numerous residents.
  • Lawrence Markman, M.D. is the Chief Physician and Director of Medical Activities at the Delaware Psychiatric Center. He graduated from the Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York, and then completed his residency training in family medicine at the Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Markman came to DPC from Jefferson Medical College, where he was appointed as the Clinical Instructor of the Department of Family Medicine. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, and is Board-certified with added qualifications in geriatric medicine. He is a member of the GMEC, and has participated in numerous research opportunities.
  • Lisa Maxwell, M.D. is the Residency Director of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Wilmington Hospital.
  • Susheela Nagaraj, M.D. has been a primary care physician at Coatesville VA Medical Center since 1994. After completing medical school at Bangalore Medical College in India, she completed her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology. She is Board-certified in both internal medicine and geriatric medicine. Dr. Nagaraj provides supervision to residents on their internal medicine rotation.
  • Tanveer Qureshi, M.D. has been a primary care physician at Coatesville VA Medical Center since 2003. After completing medical school at Ross University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital. Dr. Qureshi provides supervision to residents on their internal medicine rotation.
  • Harold Rosen, M.D., F.A.P.A. is the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Wilmington Hospital, and the Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, and has held hospital and administrative appointments in several states as well as in the military.
  • Charlotte Selig, Psy.D. completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in forensics. She has more than ten years of experience providing treatment in adult psychiatric inpatient settings and adolescents and children in outpatient settings. Her primary areas of interest include working with individuals with personality disorders, psychological assessment, and geriatrics.
  • David Sibley, M.D., is the Lead Psychiatrist at the Dover Community Mental Health Clinic. After graduating from Tufts University, he completed an internal medicine residency at UCLA, and an adult psychiatry residency at UC Irvine Medical Center. He is Board-certified in both adult psychiatry and internal medicine. Dr. Sibley provides supervision to PGY-III residents on the outpatient rotation, as well as provides didactic lectures and ground rounds on the topic of community psychiatry.
  • Robert G. Thompson, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist on the forensic unit at the Delaware Psychiatric Center. After completing his bachelor's degree in Mental Health Technology, he received his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Widener University. Additionally, he completed a six-month course of study in forensic psychology at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine. Dr. Thompson also provides didactic lectures to residents.
  • S. Imran Trimzi, M.D. is the Program Director at the Delaware Psychiatry Residency Program, as well as an attending psychiatrist at the Wilmington Community Mental Health Clinic. He is Board-certified in both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry. After graduating from Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan, he completed his adult psychiatry residency training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania- Hahnemann University, and his child and adolescent fellowship at University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has expertise in childhood developmental disorders including ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. He teaches several didactic courses and provides direct supervision to PGY-III residents at the outpatient clinic.
  • Clarence Watson, JD, M.D. is the Clinical Director of Forensic Services for the Delaware Health and Social Services Psychiatry Center. Dr. Watson's experience extends back to 2001, where he attended Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He continued his Fellowship at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York. His teaching experiences are extensive and reach from coast to coast. Some of his highlights have been discussing drug and substance abuse in adolescents, criminal litigation, clinical medicine and forensics psychiatry. Professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law Member: Criminal Behavior Committee and the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society: Councilor: Executive Board Committee
