Senior Forums Focus On Growing Older, Staying Healthy

The Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities is partnering with the Wilmington Senior Center, AstraZeneca, The Laffey-McHugh Foundation and other community groups to present a series of healthy senior living forums in New Castle County during 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The next senior living forum will be held on September 9, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the BankOne Center at the Riverfront.  The forum topic is “Keep Moving and Stay Fit”  with the focus on fitness, movement and balance and will include presentations by Dr. Jeffrey Meyers and Jill Dietrich of Delaware Curative, Inc.

“These public forums provide an exceptional opportunity for older persons to learn how to improve and maintain their health and wellness as they age,” said  Chris Oakes, Health Educator for the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD).

Future forums will be held on December 9, 2004 – Maintaining a Positive Outlook; March 10, 2005 – Healthy Nutrition; June 9, 2005 – Understanding Prescription and Over the Counter Drugs; September 8, 2005 – Boosting Brain Power; December 8, 2005 – Communicating with Health Care Providers; March 9, 2006 – Dollars and Sense; June 8, 2006 – Making the Most of Your Leisure Time; September 14, 2006 – Spirituality and Aging; and December 14, 2006 – Celebrating Healthy Senior Living.
