Hundreds Attend 2006 Caregiver Expo

Hundreds of family caregivers attended Delaware's second annual Caregiver Expo, which was held at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington on November 2.

Hosted by Delaware Health and Social Services’ Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD), the Expo offered a day of learning, sharing and support for family caregivers. It featured educational seminars, health screenings, spa treatments, product demonstrations, informational exhibits, and more.

Speakers for the day included Larry Mendte, evening news anchor of CBS3 News; Dr. William H. Thomas, an international authority on geriatric medicine and eldercare; Suzanne Mintz, co-founder of the National Family Caregivers Association; Dr. Sarah Stookey, a geriatric specialist; Jack Markell, Delaware State Treasurer; and Frank Miller, a nationally certified school psychologist.

As part of the program, three caregivers selected for the 2006 Caregiver of the Year Award were honored.

The Expo also provided a venue for the launching of VieBridge Connections Delaware , a new web-based tool for caregivers. Through VieBridge Connections Delaware, caregivers can access the information that they need, manage personal health issues, discuss concerns with professionals, and make connections with other caregivers.

DSAAPD appreciates the generous support of the following organizations, who helped make the Expo a great success: Christiana Care Health Systems, Plantinum Sponsor; AARP Delaware, Gold Sponsor; and Astra Zenica, Silver Sponsor.
