DSAAPD Nurse Receives 2006 Delaware Award for Excellence and Commitment in State Service

In a ceremony held in Dover on May 3, 2006, Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) nurse, Erin Bartley, was presented with the Delaware Award for Excellence and Commitment in State Service.

This award is given each year to five Delaware State employees or groups of employees who exemplify the highest standards of excellence and commitment to service. During this year's ceremony, Governor Ruth Ann Minner was on hand to provide the keynote address and to present the award to each of the recipients.

Erin was nominated for the award by the Department of Health and Social Services for her exceptional achievement, initiative and leadership.

In one recent case noted by the Department, Erin's client and spouse suffered from serious health problems which prevented them from maintaining the usual cleanliness of their home. The home was not only unkempt, but also unsafe, and the condition left Erin's client feeling depressed and overwhelmed. Erin responded by rallying a group of co-workers to volunteer spending a day cleaning and organizing the client's home. Erin's client was extremely grateful for the effort and pleased with the result.

This case is just one example of the approach that Erin takes toward her job. She is recognized by her co-workers for consistently providing exceptional customer service and extraordinary patient care. She is seen as a professional, a team player, a positive role model, and an employee who routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of her clients.
