Sampling Liquids From a Surface or Open Container Using a Pipette

- 1a. Hands two sample jars to collector: 1 plastic, 1 glass
- 1b. Opens sterile package containing pipette
- 1c. Extends sterile package containing pipette to collector

- 2a. Loosens lids on sample jars
- 2b. Removes pipette from packaging
- 2c. Aspirates 5mL to 20mL of the liquid into the pipette
- 2d. Removes syringe with needle attached from extension tubing
- 2d. Removes syringe with needle attached from extension tubing
- 2e. Carefully empties 1/2 the syringe into the plastic jar and replaces lid
- 2f. Empties the remaining liquid into the glass jar and replaces lid
- 2g. Moves to sample decon area with both sample containers

- 3a. Sprays sample containers with disinfectant

- 4a. Checks to ensure containers is completely wetted
- 4b. Dries sample containers with clean paper towel

- 5a. Hands parafilm to collector
- 5b. Fills out sample information/security labels

- 6a. Applies parafilm to glass container
- 6b. Applies information/security labels

- 7a. Opens clear zip bag to be used as secondary containment

- 8a. Places sample container into clear zip bag
