Sampling Liquids from a Drum Using a Syringe with a Weighted Extension

- 1a. Hands two sample jars to collector: 1 plastic, 1 glass
- 1b. Opens blunt needle container
- 1c. Extends sterile package containing pipette to collector
- 1d. Extends open packages containing needle and syringe to collector

- 2a. Loosens lids on sample jars
- 2b. Removes syringe from packaging
- 2c. Removes blunt needle from packaging and attaches to syringe

- 3b. Extends open package to collector

- 4a. Removes extension tubing from sterile package

- 5a. Opens package containing stainless steel weight

- 6a. Attaches weight to one end of the extension tubing
- 6b. Attaches unweighted end of extension tubing to blunt needle
- 6c. Aspirates up to 60mL of the liquid into the pipette
- 6d. Secures tubing and removes syringe with the needle still attached
- 6e. Carefully empties 1/2 the syringe into the plastic jar and replaces lid
- 6f. Empties the remaining liquid into the glass jar and replaces lid
- 6g. Moves to sample decon area with both sample containers

- 8a. Checks to ensure containers are completely wetted
- 8b. Dries sample containers with clean paper towel

- 10a. Applies parafilm to glass container
