DRINKING WATER NOTICE

Cedar Shores Condo Association
Water has high levels of chlorine

DO NOT GIVE THE WATER TO INFANTS UNDER 6 MONTHS OLD
OR USE TO MAKE INFANT FORMULA

Water sample results received in June showed chlorine levels of 10.2 parts per million (ppm). The running annual average for chlorine was 10.2 ppm for 2009. This is above the standard, or Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL), of 4 ppm.

What should I do?

  • You do not need to boil your water or take other actions. We do not know of any contamination, and none of our testing has shown disease-causing organisms in the drinking water.
  • Some people who use water containing chlorine well in excess of the MRDL could experience irritating effects to their eyes and nose. Some people who drink water containing chlorine well in excess of the MRDL could experience stomach discomfort. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
  • People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1 (800) 426-4791.

What does this mean?

Some people who use water containing chlorine well in excess of the MRDL could experience irritating effects to their eyes and nose. Some people who drink water containing chlorine well in excess of the MRDL could experience stomach discomfort. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

What happened? What was done?

A problem occurred with the treatment system. The chlorine pump was set too high and higher than normal chlorine was introduced into the system. The chlorine pump will be checked and adjusted to maintain a chlorine level below the MRDL.
