First Smile Delaware-About the Campaign

Tooth decay is the most common childhood disease in the United States – it is also nearly 100% preventable.

That is why the Division of Public Health launched First Smile Delaware, a campaign aimed at improving the oral and overall health of our children. The main goals of the campaign are to:

Raise the profile of oral health issues throughout the state of Delaware;
Decrease the prevalence of dental disease within the state, particularly among children; and
Motivate health care providers and key influencers to place a greater value upon oral health issues and initiatives.

First Smile Delaware will engage parents and collaborate with dental and medical providers to provide empowering resources for the prevention of dental disease. The battle against childhood dental disease is winnable and represents one of the greatest opportunities for ensuring the health of our State.

A tremendous group of nearly 50 key campaign partners gathered on August 17, 2012, to learn more about First Smile Delaware and begin forging an alliance for improving the wellbeing of our State’s citizens.
