Indoor Air Quality:
Pests
Cockroaches, mice, and other pests can leave behind potent allergens and carry disease into your home.
The same is true of unseen "biological" pests, such as dust mites, molds, and animal dander.
What to do:
- To prevent outdoor pests from entering, seal holes or gaps around pipes and doors.
- Have your home professionally treated for pests.
- Use chemical pesticides with caution as they can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, damage to the central nervous system and kidneys, and increased risk of cancer.
- To reduce levels of biological pests, increase ventilation, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture regularly, repair leaks and water seepage, keep indoor humidity low, and wash bedding fabrics in hot water.
