High School Smoking Prevalence Continues Downward Trend
Smoking prevalence among public high school students in Delaware continues to decline. In 2005, the prevalence reached the lowest level in the state since the Department of Education began collecting Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) data in 1995. The YRBS is conducted in odd-numbered years by the Delaware Department of Education in cooperation with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"Current smoking," defined as any smoking during the past 30 days, has decreased among high school students from 35% in 1997 to 21.2% in 2005. Additional YRBS data about tobacco use are reported below:
