Home Visiting Program

picture of mother holding baby

Being a parent for the first time is exciting but all parents sometimes feel unsure about what to do. The Home Visiting Program may be able to help.

Before you leave the hospital, the hospital staff will explain the Home Visiting Program to you. If you are eligible and decide to accept this service, you will be referred to a Home Health Agency or to Public Health. After you are home a few days, the nurse will call you to arrange an appropriate time for your visit.

  • The nurse will see how you and your baby are doing and make arrangements for any needed medical care.
  • The nurse can answer questions about your health, your baby's health, infant feeding or any other questions that may come up after you leave the hospital.
  • The nurse will explain what additional services are available to you and your baby.

Some types of insurance cover the cost of a home health nurse's visit. However if your insurance does not cover the cost, the hospital will review your request and determine if it meets the criteria for a visit from Public Health at no cost to you.
