Office of Women's Health
The Office of Women’s Health (OWH) was established by legislation to address women’s health issues across their lifespan through forums, programs, and initiatives designed to educate the public regarding women’s health and healthy lifestyles. The OWH serves as a resource for information regarding women’s health data, strategies, services, and programs to include concerns relating to adolescent, reproductive, menopausal, and postmenopausal phases of a women’s life.
The Office of Women’s Health, resides within the Division of Public Health, Department of Health & Social Services, and is committed to the ongoing health and well being of all Delaware women and girls. The OWH’s dedication spans the lifetime of a woman, from adolescents through postmenopausal stages. The office has made significant strides in improving the health of Delaware women by partnering with other public health sections, such as Family Health Services, Screening for Life, DPH HIV/AIDS Program and the WIC Program. Additional community partners are the Breastfeeding Coalition of Delaware, Delaware’s Breast Cancer Coalition, La Red Health Center, Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Task Force. Some of the outreach programs are comprised of promoting healthy living through health fairs, literature, conferences, trainings and screenings. Accomplishments include increasing the awareness about cancer and other diseases, raising the numbers of breastfeeding mothers, and increasing the health and life expectancy of newborns in Delaware.
Women can make healthy changes for themselves and their families, but sometimes they can’t do it alone. The OWH wants to help. We are committed to encouraging women to learn more about things that affect their health and to engage in healthier lifestyles. With that in mind we have created a broad topic newsletter filled with health related links and information for women and girls. It features articles on health disparities affecting women, nutrition, adolescent health, menopause and more. Each newsletter features a message from a prominent Delawarean who works toward the betterment of women’s health.
