Child Care Health Consultant Services

The Child Care Health Consultant should be a licensed or certified health professional who provides:

  • Direct observation of health, safety and nutrition practices in early learning and school-age settings;
  • Onsite, email and phone consultation;
  • A link for children, families and child care providers with community health resources (e.g. health screenings, health insurance, mental health);
  • Help in developing policies;
  • Nutrition/feeding information;
  • Communicable disease advice;
  • Support for children with special health care needs;
  • Professional development workshops and mentoring to teach health and safety best practices;
  • Technical assistance to early childhood staff on health and safety concerns;
  • Help in resolving conflicts between the daily child care provider practices and child care best practices;
  • For the establishment of collaborative relationships with program staff, families and community agencies; and
  • Help for programs to meet quality criteria for accreditation and recognition in quality rating programs.
