Child Care Health Consultant Services
The Child Care Health Consultant should be a licensed or certified health professional who provides:
- Direct observation of health, safety and nutrition practices in early learning and school-age settings;
- Onsite, email and phone consultation;
- A link for children, families and child care providers with community health resources (e.g. health screenings, health insurance, mental health);
- Help in developing policies;
- Nutrition/feeding information;
- Communicable disease advice;
- Support for children with special health care needs;
- Professional development workshops and mentoring to teach health and safety best practices;
- Technical assistance to early childhood staff on health and safety concerns;
- Help in resolving conflicts between the daily child care provider practices and child care best practices;
- For the establishment of collaborative relationships with program staff, families and community agencies; and
- Help for programs to meet quality criteria for accreditation and recognition in quality rating programs.
